About
Zoning Atlas
The industry is a potential source
of Environmental Pollution. The toxic effluent and emissions
released from the industries may have irreversible effect
on the ecological balance. Due to lack of proper zoning
the industries are set up in an unplanned manner. The
haphazard and unplanned growth of industries may enhance
the risk to the environment.
For
economic growth the industry plays an important role
in a country. We need industry to come up but in a planned
way. Proper planning and zoning of siting of industries
will also act as a strong pollution control instrument.
The Central Pollution Control Board and State Pollution
Control Boards have endeavoured to provide guidelines
on environmentally suitable zones for industrial development.
By this the entrepreneur will also be benefited to choose
a proper site for the industry.
The
preparation of Zoning Atlas for siting of Industries
during 1995 with preparation of guidelines for siting
of Industries based on environmental considerations.
The
Pollution Control Board, Assam has prepared the Zoning
Atlas for the districts of Kamrup and Goalpara and the
reports are publication. During this year, the Board
has taken up the preparation of Zoning Atlas for the
Sibsagar, Golaghat and Dibrugarh districts.
The "Industrial Estate Planning" for the State
of Assam has been entrusted to " National Environmental
Engineering Research Institute", Nagpur.
Why
Zoning Atlas is necessary ?
The Zoning Atlas is necessary for siting of industrial
zones, classifying the environment in a district, and
presenting the pollution reviving potential of various
sites in the district. It helps to select alternative
sites for siting up industries.
